Reflections from our Ghost Ranch conference: I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the scenic Ghost Ranch, where I received two awards for my writing and the Doris Gregory Memorial Scholarship. I met inspiring people, attended intriguing workshops, and enjoyed vegan cuisine (my favorite dish was the tofu taco option at lunch on Saturday). I’m very grateful I had the opportunity to be at the conference, where I formed connections with many wonderful women and men and learned how to strengthen my writing skills. I look forward to keeping in touch with everyone!

The New Mexico Press Women Communications contest attracted a record number of entries this year. According to the most recent analysis of data, the 2015 New Mexico Press Women Communications Contest attracted 94 entrants and 260 entries this year – an 85% increase in entries year over year. According to the National Federation of Press Women, the New Mexico state contest has grown faster than any other state. As a result of the increase, the contest has become more competitive with more quality entries.

First place winners who are members of NMPW and the National Federation ofPress Women are eligible to compete nationally.

New Mexico Press Women invites entries for the 2015 Communications Contest, recognizing excellence in print or electronic media, books, photography, advertising, public relations, graphic arts, blogs/websites, and academic journalism throughout New Mexico. You don’t have to be a member of NMPW to participate in this open competition, and both men and women are encouraged to enter and join.

We are about to announce this year’s contest as soon as the electronic website is live, which we are expecting very soon. We have a contest deadline of Feb. 9, with an earlier Feb. 2 deadline for hard copy such as books. Entry fees remain lower: $10 for the first entry, $5 for each additional entry for members, and newsrooms can enter under one membership fee with a minimum ten entries.

The Contest Committee wanted to clarify that the initial deadline for registering at the State Level for the NFPW Electronic Contest was January 27 (today), but we have extended that deadline to February 3.
