About Us
New Mexico Press Women (NMPW), organized in 1949, is an affiliate of the National Federation of Press Women. It is an organization of professional journalists and communicators that promotes the highest ethical standards while looking to the future in professional development, networking and protecting First Amendment rights. NMPW’s objectives are to:
- Keep members at the top of their abilities through dynamic seminars, exceptional networking opportunities and publications.
- Recognize members’ achievement and their service through the New Mexico Professional Communications Contest and the Communicator of Achievement award. First place winners proceed to the national level.
- Support youth activities and education through a High School Journalism Contest and the Doris Gregory College Scholarships. First place winners in the high school contest compete in the NFPW High School Journalism Competition.
NMPW is:
- Is open to men and women
- Holds an annual state conference
- Holds an annual communications contest with more than 90 categories; first place winners compete nationally.
- Has a statewide newsletter
- Provides a space for networking, mentoring, shared advice, experience, encouragement and guidance
- Offers special workshops, how-to sessions and refresher seminars
- Advocates First Amendment rights and public’s right to know
- Local chapter activities
