Zoom Conversation: Journalists Covering Criminal & Social Justice Issues

NMPW members are invited to participate in an off-the-record Zoom Conversation on Friday, 25 Sep, from 4:00- 4:45 p.m. NMPW will host two journalists covering criminal and social justice issues surrounding police reform and accountability. Joining us are Ryan Lowery from the Las Vegas Optic and Elise Kaplan, criminal justice reporter for the Albuquerque Journal. The event host is NMPW Board Member Ludella Awad, a criminal justice reporter who has worked with multiple news organizations covering the criminal justice system. We anticipate this meeting lasting 45 minutes, but it may go as long as one hour.

NMPW Vice President Damien Willis pens article on Corona, New Mexico

Damien Willis, a journalist with the Las Cruces Sun-News, wrote an article called “A town named Corona: Rural New Mexico village shares name with a pandemic” that appeared in the Albuquerque Journal on 27 April 2020. Link: https://www.abqjournal.com/1447917/a-town-named-corona.html

Willis drove to Corona, New Mexico to interview folks in a village of 163 residents in Lincoln County, and wrote a delightful article about how its citizens are adapting to now having a notorious name.

Brian Sanderoff, who is president of Research and Polling, Inc. in Albuquerque, the pollster for the Albuquerque Journal, and a political analyst for KOAT-TV discuss the potential effects of the pandemic in a wide-ranging interview with Kathleen McCleery, a broadcast journalist with more than two decades experience with the PBS NewsHour.
