NMPW 2014 Conference Registration

This year’s conference provides the opportunity to find more outlets for your freelance work, learn about New Mexico In Depth’s creative model of news gathering and dissemination, hear from Major General Gwen Bingham of White Sands Missile Range about what it takes to be a woman rising through the ranks in a field dominated by men, celebrate our successes and honor our Communicator of Achievement. Of course, you can network and make lifetime friends who can support you in your professional endeavors.

In addition, if you arrive Friday, you can attend a play at New Mexico State University’s new Center for the Arts and after the conference, tour Spaceport America or soak in hot mineral springs. Details about conference events and our hotel are below. Sign up by April 4 to get the Early Bird conference rates. If you aren’t a member, pay your membership fee along with your conference registration to get the member rate.

2014 NMPW Conference Taking Shape

As hosts of the 2014 NMPW conference, the LCPW chapter has been working with various hotels to gather information. While we considered locations such as Truth or Consequences/Elephant Butte and Ruidoso, we decided to host the conference at the Hotel Encanto in Las Cruces.

The details are still being confirmed, but we want to give you a heads-up so you can mark your calendar and plan to attend.

The 2014 Conference will be a one-day event on Saturday, April 26, with optional pre- and post-conference activities.

Here’s the tentative schedule:

NMPW Board meeting:   10:30 a.m.
Zia Awards Luncheon:  12 noon – 1:30 p.m.
Membership meeting: 1:40 – 2:30 p.m.
Workshop 1:  2:45 – 4 p.m.
Workshop 2:   4:10 – 5:30 p.m.
Social/Silent Auction:  6 – 6:30 p.m.
Banquet:  6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

We are arranging a optional Friday night cultural experience. You can attend the performance of “The Misanthropes” at the new NMSU Center for the Arts. Tickets are $17 for adults and $14 for seniors. The theatre can be combined with dinner at a local restaurant.

We are trying to arrange a post-conference tour of Spaceport America for Sunday morning. More details about this are forthcoming.
