Regrettably, the celebration of Max Evans’ 94th birthday at Bookworks has been cancelled due to illness. Originally scheduled for Sunday, August 26, this was to be the first in a series of “Salute to Legends” sponsored by New Mexico Press Women with support from associated organizations. The next (now, inaugural) event in the series will be a tribute to Tony Hillerman on Saturday, May 25, 2019, the 94th anniversary of his birth. Plan to come and hear comments by Anne Hillerman, Tony’s daughter, and James McGrath Morris, the author of an upcoming biography of Tony.

The New Mexico Humanities Council presents a film and panel discussion as part of its Journalism Goes to Hollywood series. See “Almost Famous” at the Kimo Theater beginning at 2:00, followed by a panel discussion with Devon O’Leary, Alisa Valdez, Alex DeVore, and NMPW President Sherri Burr. Admission is free.

If your book entry in the NMPW Communications Contest or Zia Book Award Contest was a winner (First Place) or a finalist (Second Place, Third Place, Honorable Mention), you can purchase stickers to place on your book covers. The stickers do not have a date printed on them, so even if your book was honored in a previous year, you can still use the stickers. New Mexico Press Women have presented their 2017 communications awards in a variety of categories at their annual conference, held this year in Las Cruces. The awards were presented to those present a a gala banquet that ended the NMPW annual conference Saturday evening, April 22. Awards will be mailed to those who did not attend the banquet.
